Dear Ann,
Where do I even begin? Tuesday, I really needed you Ann. I needed your encouragement - how you always make me look good and feel good, no matter what size I am. Its therapy for me to be in your presence. Just to breathe in the smell of quality apparel, experience customer service at its best, and have outfits already placed together lovingly. When I'm with you, I don't have to worry if one red will match another, or if a certain jacket will match a pair of pants -you have done all the work for me. For that I am truly grateful. Ann- girl - you've always been there for me. Remember when we met for the first time. It was May 2002. I had just broken up with Blonde Guy and I felt so lost. He had burned a hole in my heart and at the same time, my income tax return was burning a hole in my pocket. A woman scorned + disposable income = major emotional spending spree. Oh Ann, the moment I walked in the doors I knew we would be BFF's. We spent hours (I can't even remember how long I was in there, but it was a long time) together. I couldn't decide what to get, but don't for one minute think it was because you lacked anything. You simply had so much to offer I couldn't decide. You should know by now that I'm just indecisive. You could never be anything less than perfect Ann Taylor. Don't let anyone ever tell you any differently either. You made spending $330 in one pop so easy I knew that we would be together forever. You do remember the time I was singing in Brian and Vicky's wedding and needed a dress don't you? Who did I run straight to for guidance? It was you Ann who showed me the perfect dress for the occasion. A hot little turquoise number and it was even a size smaller than I normally wore! You even had a pair of heels with turquoise accents that complimented the dress ever so delightfully. I just had to get them. A moment of weakness I guess. I'll never forget how much they cost. $75.00. The most I had ever spent on a pair of shoes. Remember, hubby (when he wasn't hubby yet) was with me and tried to talk me out of buying the shoes. What does he know? I am still a smidge disappointed that you sold my dress to that other girl at the wedding. She didn't look halfway as lovely as I. I told myself that everyone would see my dress first since I was singing and that that other girl was just making a concerted effort to steal my BFF for herself. Ann, I'm so glad you weren't deceived by her hijinks. I forgive you. You are such a faithful friend Ann. I'm afraid I have to ask your forgiveness for not coming to visit you. Its not because I don't love you - in fact, nothing could be further from the truth. Unfortunately, something is trying to compete for your BFF status. That something is (cue evil music)...Wal-Mart. Their plan is to launch an coup effort to overthrow the world and I can see straight through it. Kathie Lee may have been hypnotized by their oozing sentiments, but not me. No siree, not me.
I write all this to say...Ann, for the love of a dear and faithful friend, please lower your prices so that I can hang out with you more. I've had to make friends with the likes of JCPenney, Sears, and New York & Co. - don't get me wrong, they are great girls - but they don't hold a candle to you. These girls let me down on Tuesday though Ann. As I strolled through Po-Dunk Mall looking at all the cheap imitations, I couldn't help but mourn your absence. Ann, I am dying a slow death.
With the price of gas and food on the rise, relief has to come from somewhere.
Please come through for me Ann Taylor. You're my only hope.

89 coins in my pocket:
Dear Caroline,
I couldn't help but feel sorry for you after reading your love letter. I, too have a long relationship with Ann. Only, I have been unfaithful ever since I discovered Ann's sexier and slightly more loose fraternal twin...Ann Taylor Outlet. Poor girl. She really does whore herself out at that clearance rack. She reels me in every time. I just can't say no.
Have you ever noticed the smell of quality fabric in the air? That's RIGHT...it doesn't smell at ALL. Except for the subtle fragrance of finely knit silk blouses.
Perhaps if you came to visit me, I could escort you to the upscale bordello that is Ann Taylor Outlet? She'll have something you'll like. I'm sure of it. She'll be very gentle.
Until then,
Mrs. Noonzie
Mrs. Noonzie,
I'm not speaking to you until you get a blog.
Mrs. G
I am an ATL girl, myself. I love the Loft. But, seriously. Lately I can't even afford stuff on the sale rack.
Too funny! I'm with you! I get a gift card every Christmas and birthday from my in-laws and I feel like doing a hallelujah dance! Hubby can't stop me now...
I think we did a bit of shopping in there one time...didn't we?
I don't think I have ever bought anything from Ann Taylor - crazy expensive! My sister-in-law swears by the sale racks, but still for me, nothin'! I also can't figure out the love affair with Ann, I just don't see the things as that great...please don't throw tomotoes at me, I am just clearly blinded by the goodwill gal...
walmart is the devil!!! Worse than oprah i tell ya, somewheres in bloggy archive land i have a rant about walmart......i totally heart ann as well!!! she rocks.....
Of course I share the same love for Ann Taylor but unfortunatly I can't shop there either! I'm ready to sign the petition for Ann to lower her prices so that I may grace her with my presence once again!!!!!
They have to clean the drool off the windows of Ann Taylor every time I go to the mall. How pant suits and fancy white shirts can make me so giddy! Glad to know there's another Ann lover out there. She's got the whole "Loft" collection going on---but we don't have it around here. I let myself "splurge" once a year and buy something great from there, but most days I'm all Wal Mart too (or if I'm really getting fancy, maybe Target....).
Hope you win a million bucks and can go splurge :)!
Please send this one to the good folks over at Talbots, too.
Seriously great stuff. Truly.
And now I'm off to Target...'cause, well...it's cheap.
Yes, I understand your love for Ann...and the Loft. I have been there and been seduced by her all too recently. :)
I just discovered Ann Taylor Loft around my bday and it was love at first size:)!
I'm in love with her sister, Ann Taylor Loft. And one of the main reasons is because I'm a size or two smaller in her clothes. They just know how to please their friends don't they? I am forwarding this letter to Loft as well. However, I have found major steals in her clearance department!
That's pretty funny, SITSta!
Ohh - I love Ann Taylor Loft as well. I find it a tad more relaxed and more my style than traditional Ann Taylor. It is also less expensive.
Very funny note, though!
Man...you need to get out more! LOL No...I understand. I used to have a relationship with Guess until I had kids. Now I guess I am a pervert because it's all about Baby Gap!
Oh a girl after my own heart. I love Ann Taylor too. But mostly shop at the Loft. Try shopping on line and sign up for the email notices Ann has great sales.
Congrats my SITSA
I want a BFF like Ann. I don't have any BFFs. I spend so much time with Wal-Mart, but I hate her. I have begun spending time with Cato, but still not feeling the love. I need an Ann.
Funny stuff! Ann Taylor is great.
I'm impressed you sang in someone's wedding. You must sing well. I don't. I croak. :o)
wehave9 -- So with you on Baby Gap! I've never had an Ann Taylor in my life -- comes of being raised in my big brother's hand-me-downs, I guess -- but I'll drop $160 on an outfit in a heartbeat if it's for MY BABIES!
Ahhhhhhhh now I want to go shopping!
Congrats on your SITS day!
I may have to venture over to her racks. Only on my piddlie income I may just cry when I go. Not sure if that will be such a good idea for my well being.
Happy feature day.
lol! I've never become acquainted with Ann. I rarely do anything that requires me to wear anything but sweats and jeans. If I ever actually get a life, maybe I'll have to check her out.
Walmart is evil! I have to say (please don't hate me) but I am not an Ann Taylor kind of girl, but my BFF Bunny is, so that should at least get me some brownie points!
I 'm right there with you and I would love it if they would make some of there maternity clothes(loft) a bit bigger I'm not huge but just big busted and need to wear a larger size I can only wear knits from ANN so wish her blouses would fit better one me at least.
Oh Ann. Yeah, we broke up many years ago when I could no longer fit into any of her cute offerings. I'm working my way back down to her sizes, slowly but surely. Now, there's just a matter of figuring out how to pay for it.
I've never met Ann. Now that we've been introduced, I'll have to stop over! :)
Very cute post. And funny too! Your blog is great.
Breaking up is so tough. Sounds like it's time for some Ben & Jerrys and pink bunny slippers for you. (I recommend Wal-Mart for both.)
Great post! Congrats on your BIG DAY!
Shopping, you get to go shopping? Luck you! I kinda remember those days, new clothes that didn't have blueberry or baby puck stains on them. Oh, yes it coming back to me. I really need to go shopping.
Hh ha! That was great!
I can relate... I posted this not long ago:
"Are there clothes made exclusively for the rich that take into account shape & style, so the rich always look fabulous?
If this is true...
The clothes made for the poor must be made purely to help differentiate the poor from the rich. These items I'll refer to as 'Crap-Rags' feature no special nips or tucks, no fine fabrics and no figure flattering lines. I view this as a conspiracy in order to insure the poor might NEVER be confused with the rich.
Crap-Rags, thy name is Kohl's!"
Great post!
I love, love, love Ann Taylor, especially the Loft. Fortunately, I have both outlets about 20 minutes away. It helps a little bit!
lol! i'm more of an express girl myself, but i understand the $$ thing :)
I have friends who are addicted to Ann Taylor. They feel they way you do. That bug never bit me though in part because Ann is not very friendly to curvy gals with hips and boobs.
~j~
You are so funny. I am a large woman, so I am afraid I am not friendly with Ann.
My mother and younger sisters are all total Ann Taylor addicts.
Me? I'm more of a jeans and t-shirt kinda gal - I don't think AT goes well with my birks or clogs... The clothes are gorgeous though!
And yes, these days I'm much more likely to be shopping for clothes at Tarjay than the mall, anyhow. *sigh*
Rockin' out now to Kermit doing The Rainbow Connection..... Cheers!
ETA - Oh, my. The word verification is swearing at me! My word is BASTRZ. Doesn't that seem like a swear-y vanity license plate? I may just be sleep-deprived but that is cracking me up!
I've never been close with Ann but I do understand your plea. It's so hard to maintain a one way friendship, someone eventually has to cave.
I prefer Target simply for the fact that getting spit up out of a $10 top compared to a $50 one is way less frustrating and causes less tears!
I too got a somewhat perverty word veri...I think someone at Ann is onto you...
I love Ann Taylor too! I have shopped lately at ATL and found some good deals. I bought a sweater there that I needed to return, and I urged my husband to take it back for me. But alas, he sent me back into the store alone. And I came out with two skirts, two pairs of flip-flops, and $40 more in the hole. But you just can't compete with their color palette, fabrics and fit!
I've never been a big Ann Taylor devotee, but I DO feel your pain on this. I'm so over Target and buying "pretend" designer clothes from their "GO! International" line. ugh. I don't even get released from Baby Jail to go to Forever 21 or Express.
I really need to go and visit Ann taylor and find out what all the hoopla is about..
Yup .. in the 13 years I've lived in the US, I've never been to ATL :-)
When she comes to Walmart I can get to know her too.
Speaking of reds that match.... Wouldn't Garanimals for grown ups be handy?
Jen
"Talk to me, Goose!" Oh you and I could be friends!!
Ann Taylor. She and I used to be freinds too. Now I am hanging out with BP.
I go to Old Navy and Target for my shopping needs...maybe three times a year. :-(
Ahh, beautiful ann and her sister store Ann Taylor Loft. Don't hate me but my sister used to be a buyer for Ann Taylor so I would get all sorts of discounts. Now, now I have to settle for holidays to shop there as I stare longingly into their store windows.
I hear you! Have you tried Ann Taylor Loft? http://www.anntaylorloft.com/home.jsp
Better prices. Cute stuff. Can order online.
No, I don't work for them...
Good luck!
oh such good advice from all trying to help the out cry to your dearest ann...
so cute!
~simply~
My husband got me addicted to the Ann Taylor Outlet store during the Memorial Day weekend sale of 2007. I'll never forget waiting in line to get into the dressing rooms for over an hour while MSH brought me outfit after outfit to try on once I finally got into a room. It's changed the way a dress forever. I recently had to bid a sad farewell to my sleeveless navy button down shirt as it mysteriously ripped while hanging in my closet. I Heart Ann Taylor, too.
I wish this would work! I only shop their clearance rack!
Ann is too rich for my blood... I'll be slumming it at Kohl's and Old Navy until we hit the lottery.
Nice letter!!! :-) Hope that gets through to her. I'm not familiar with her stuff although she sounds very nice and convincing.
My kids suck all the money out of me for their stuff.
I feel your pain. When I walk into Ann Taylor (or Ann Taylor Loft), I head straight to the clearance section(s). It isn't as simple to match things, but it works!
God bless clearance!!!!
I so know the smell of quality clothing.. it linger in my mind. I pretend it's there as I sift through Target...ah.
The shirt I am wearing was a hand me down from....well, who knows.
My pants are capris I bought at TJ Maxx...and I wear them almost everyday.
Why? Because I am a mother who lives in the guilt that comes with motherhood...I would prefer to spend the money on my children.
Ann must not remember what it is like to be a mother..
Did she ever respond? :)
I wish I had your will power.
I hope you learned your lesson in never taking Mr Baseball shopping with you again. BTW, I am sure that you did look better in your turquois number than the other lady!
You know Ann has a contest going on now, right? I know, I know I should shut my dang mouth and keep it a secret but after that love letter I could not resist- Here you go... http://anntaylorloft.eprize.net/maternity/index.tbapp

Now, what would be better than WINNING a spree at AT Loft then after all that hunting for the best prices you relax your tired tootsies and get your skin glowing at a spa. Ummmmm okay if I don't hit submit soon I'll decide I need to win this and not share so here goes.
You are also welcome to check out my giveaway... not as big but hey, I'm a SITSta and blogger and it is coming out of my pocket.
Ah, retail therapy. It works wonders. I think that the most I've ever spent on a pair of shoes is $75 as well. Honestly though, with shoes, I've found you get what you pay for. So good for you! :)
P.S. You're three featured posts on SITS have convinced me that I would like your blog. I'm adding you to my google reader!
Lovely letter. :)
Sweet letter but I am afraid I only have a relationship like that with my Publix supermarket! That's where I spend most of my money. Thank goodness my husband buys me my shoes (he has great taste).
Congrats on the SITS love!!
Hilarious!!! I could right the same exact letter to Anthropologie!
I'm an ATL fan. Whenever I have birthday or Christmas money, I go straight there.
I probably wouldn't even be able to afford anything from her. Old Navy is more my style. :)
I hope Ann will come through for you. By the way, love hearing Billy Joel "She's Always a Woman" on your site. WAY back in the day a male friend from high school told me that Billy must have written the song about me. I took it as a complement...
I have a similar relationship with Banana Republic and I refuse to cheat. They have been so good to me. Ann does not believe in catering to the 5'10" crowd like me, but BR loves my body, and my height!
Ann Taylor, huh? I'll have to check her out.
Most of my clothes already comes from Walmart. :)
Conrgats on being the SITS featured blogger.
Another nice post! :)
I love Ann too. The first time I met her I spent $500 because no one can my my butt look nice the way she can. I don't even look at the sizes because everything just looks perfect. I am so with you on this though because hubby still hasn't forgiven that particular shopping spree.
Hey I need new pants....
Oh, how true. I have several of her wool skirts, perfect for work during the winter months.
My problem with Ann is that she seems to favor shorter girls. I often feel like an unloved Amazon giant in her presence. New York and Co. has never let me down like that!
I would love some retail therapy, but my stupid, gas guzzling SUV (that my husband just had to have in 2005) just won't allow it. Every time I think that I need a new pair of adorable capris my SUV reminds me to go to the gas station and drop $80. grrrrrrr
You are so funny. It is sad when we can't spend that money any more. Ugh. Maybe Ann will come through for you!
Ann Taylor, Ann Taylor Loft, Ann Taylor Outlet...all the same to me! Still can't spend the stinkin' money since I don't have that great stinkin' job I asked Santa for for Christmas last year! Instead, he just got me an ATL gift card so I could buy that cute little dress I wore to a wedding that the wedding singer had on. ;) (I kid!)
Ooh, I love AT as well, but she is rather high maintenance, prancing around in all her "dry clean only" glory! Little hussy! Thankfully her step-sister, the Loft, is more like the girl next door and says "go ahead, throw me in the dryer, we'll still be cool". A gift card is what I ask for every.single.Christmas.and.birthday.
Hilarious letter!
I've been eyeing Ann since I was 15 and have yet to make her mine. I'm kinda waiting around for some fabulous "Jackie O" engagement where nothing but the most tailored plaid skirt and matching sweater set will do. Until then, I'm left frumping around in my Target togs.
Funny stuff here! Congrats on being a SITS girl!
I'm a day late....but I have to say, this is a GREAT post!
I too am one of Ann's best friends. Everything just fits there! She rocks.
I especially love her younger, cooler sister, Ann Taylor Loft.
Congrats on your SITS day!
I'm off to shop at The Loft today (with my gift card, thank you very much). I could have written this exact post. I hate shopping for clothes but this is the one store that makes me so very happy.
I'm giving away a $50 Disney Gift Card today. Stop over and enter!
Ah yes, I miss the days of Ann Taylor too, but then I got poor, and after I got poor I got fat so now I've got two reasons I cant go shopping with Ann
Why is it that her clothes always fit right??
Ann is like that you know...she never lets you down. She knows just what you need and just where you need it. And, she does have really sweet sales on the clearance racks.
I've always said that if I became rich one day, I would buy all my outfits at Ann Taylor.
Still waiting on that....
I pay Ann's ransom so that I can feel like a cool kid and hang out with her. It's worth it. She's like high class grown up Garanimals.
Sorry I missed you yesterday...hopefully my comment makes your post-SITS letdown day a little better! :)
I've had some good times with Ann, too.
Hi Carline...I came from SITS and am trying to catch up. :)
I have never met Ann....from what I'm hearing I would really like her...but alas, I fear I couldn't her right now....
Congratulations on being featured!
OH MY GOODNESS. I have just discovered your blog, and to this post I have to say... AMEN, Sister!
I have to go shower now (Yes, it's 2 PM and I have yet to shower--have I mentioned that I have a 1-year-old and 3-year-old?), but I can't wait to read more!
I just found your blog through Octamom's and had to respond to your BFF story. Ann is also my BFF. I discovered her suits many years ago while working for a university. Then traded suits for cargos when I became a teacher... and am now in-between, but all with Ann. The pants in her closet are the only ones that fit. Now, if she would just raise the necklines on her tops. Showing cleavage is not my thing!
P.S. Ann's sales and on-line coupons come close to rivaling Wal-Mart's prices. (Close). I've bought slacks and tops for as low as $20... and not out of season.
