Well, we've made it to day three sans diapers! Here's a small recap of each day:
Day One - definitely the toughest so far!
* All 19 pairs of underwear/boxer briefs were wet within the first 4 hours.
* Cleaned up lots of pee-spots on the carpet and couch
* Stayed dry through naptime (1.5 hours) - this was big!
* Finally started to "get" that he had to tell me when he needed to potty - usually it was when he couldn't hold it any longer.
* Had a crying fit prior to a HUGE pee; received a matchbox car for being so brave
* I got so frustrated at one point in the day I slammed my hand down in karate kid fashion on the floor whilst whispering the F-word. No permanent damage sustained. This moment was not witnessed by the redhead.
* Two accidents over the course of the night, a small disruption in sleep
* No poops
Day Two - much better than day one
* Only went through about 6 pairs of underwear
* Got pretty good at telling us when he needed to potty
* Still got a little scared when he felt the real "urge to go" - lots of encouragement and praise will be needed for a while on this issue
* Kept underwear dry for longer intervals
* Stayed dry for another 1.5 hour long nap
* We got poops! - his reward was a meal from Chick-Fil-A!
* Only had one accident overnight (we did wake him up to take him potty)!!
Day Three
* so far so good - no accidents
* one Big pee with another one expected any moment.
Thanks for all the positive encouragement. Even though it is a 3-day program, his training is far from over. It is still going to take a lot of diligence on my part to keep him in line. I'll post another update soon.
** Since I've been chasing the redhead around all day and rushing him to the pot, I haven't had the chance to take any pictures of his cute tushie in underwear, but maybe I can get one soon. It is adorable!

16 coins in my pocket:
Lots of praise for the redhead. With Calob he had this thing for wanting to stand up like Daddy so we through some cheerios in the potty for some target pratice. Cause well ya know it's one thing to stand up it's another to get the aim right.
So excited for the Redhead and for mom and dad of course.
I'm so glad to hear that it's going pretty well so far! I bet this is an exciting milestone.
Wowee! That's FABULOUS. "Lots of encouragement and praise...for a while..." Yes. There is nothing magic about day 4. We always say, if you really want them to get something, it takes about a thousand times. Give or take.
I hope you didn't have to "engineer" any insects at Chick-Fil-A. They have toddler toys, right?
Hilarious. I can just imagine you on the floor whispering naughty words out of sheer desperation. Am I a bad cousin because the image makes me laugh? :)
Love,
Jennifer
Sounds like he's doing pretty well. And good job mom too!
Awesome Caroline!!! Potty training can be challenging but it is worth it. I just spent $40 buying diapers today - now that is NO FUN!
caroline! this is veronica mcpeters, i just found your blog a little while ago from another blogger whom i do not know. was so excited to see it-and teh potty training thing-i did the same thing with my first (three days, etc), but i think before she was anywhere near ready and, i hate to say this in case it is discouraging, btu it was a nightmare-for months. but you sound off to a great start!! keep it up, be patient, at SOME poitn it WILL work, don't turn into "mean mommy" (which I did, adn we had to backtrack a little). The second one i did a little differently and it was no big deal. can't wait to hear more updates!
The whole karate chop thing. Yeah. that was me.
Glad to hear progress is being made.
Wahoo, way to go Caro..... and of course the Redhead. I think this is one of the hardest things that we do and then one day you cannot remember how to change a diaper. That is a good day!!!♥
Great work! Keep it up! He will be so proud of those underwear!
hang in there Caro!!! I know exactly what you mean when he gets a little scared to go when he has the urge. I am so proud of the little guy!!
do you feel like you smell like pee yet??? heehee
oxoxo NikkiLANE
Yea for the little guy!! just think of all the money you'll save. :)
Yay! Sound like you're off to a great start. You have inspired me to give it a try soon with Dylan.
Stay encouraged! The worst is behind you.=)
Go mom, Go!!!
Just a tip from a seasoned momma of four, I'm not sure what the "3 day potty training" philosophy says about staying dry at night, but please don't fret too much or put too much pressure on him about it. It will happen when his body is ready, unless you're willing to stop sleeping overnight again and be waking him up to go. My kids (all 4 of them) have all worn nighttime pull-ups until at least age 5 1/2...one daughter wore them until 7 1/2. Even if we woke them up once overnight they were still wetting the bed. And selfishly, the late night changing of sheets and stress of waking them up just wasn't worth it. They all were such deep sleepers - just needed the time for the body/brain cues to form for themselves. Good luck!
Way to go all around. Just never had the time or patience to be so thorough, am so impressed!
Hazve a great day!
