the 8:50 showing

Saturday night, my friend Emily (Chatting at the Sky) and my new "bloggy friend who is now my friend in real life" Sissy (Out on a Limb) went out to dinner and then went to see..........you guessed it, Twilight.

Dinner was great. The movie...notsomuch.

Now I'm no movie critic and movies that the critics pan I sometimes like and vice versa. I had heard mixed reviews about Twilight, but I have to admit, after reading the book, I had high expectations for the onscreen love affair between Bella and Edward.

All my glittering expectations of Twilight greatness were dimmed as soon as I saw Edward as "a killing-machine" shimmering in the sunlight, his body sparkling as if he had doused himself in gold glitter from the craft section at Hobby Lobby. I almost laughed out loud at that one. PITIFUL. What happened to the million sparkling diamonds? Anyone?

Let's talk Bella for a moment. Even though she said that she wasn't scared of who Edward was (once she discovered his little secret), she looked TERRIFIED throughout the entire movie. She totally made me tense.

Now Rob Pattinson on the other hand, he was good, intense, but good. Once he got over all the "I look like I'm gonna blow chunks all over the biology desk" scene where Bella walks into Biology class.

While the movie wasn't a total bust, it definitely WASN'T the best part of the evening. After the movie was over, we were headed to our cars when we realized that we hadn't gotten a picture together. After all, I had to prove I was actually with the girls. We sat in Emily's van and took several timed pictures. We tried brooding faces, we tried normal smiles, I attempted a vampire crouch and spring, but we just ended up laughing hysterically so all the pictures are of us laughing.

The plan was for us to look brooding in this picture - you know, like Edward. Emily and Sissy look the part, but I got cracked up about something and ended up looking like I was about to throw up!

Emily, it was good to see you again and Sissy, I'm so glad I got to meet you! I feel like we've been friends for a long time! We definitely must get together again!

Love the photos. And glad to hear I am not missing anything when it comes to the movie, I know nothing about Twilight.

When he was "sparkling" I leaned over and asked my friend if he had leprosy. It was so bad.

You totally have the better pictures. I posted mine, but they aren't half as funny!

Emily told me about this outing on Thursday and I so wish that I had friends to accompany me too! Unfortunately no one I know in real life (that lives less than two hours away) reads the books. So my precious Hubby volunteered to take me tonight...after this I shall be a little wary when watching. Thanks for the review and I'm glad y'all had fun!

I want ot see it... just to see it... but I will go in with VERY Low expectations (and who am I kidding... I'll wait till it comes out and netflix it)

I agree about the movie. I knew it wasn't going to be great like the books, but I was sadly disappointed. But I still want them to do the rest... I think they could get better.

Thanks for the honest reviews. I knew as soon as I saw the first trailer that I wouldn't expect much. That's why I love reading! Your pictures are great!

I have to agree...I was pretty disappointed in the movie as well. The baseball scene on was pretty good though. Oh well...maybe the next one will be better. I heard December 09? Love the pics, too funny!

Agreed...with everything you said. And amen.

Love these pictures...but seriously, your night was not complete because y'all didn't meet gay Filipino men. Ahem.

Sounds like you had loads of fun. I'm glad, but reading about the movie is like reading Chinese for me- since I know NOTHING about the series.

Okay. Lula above must have been in the theater when I saw it, because there were GAY, and I mean GAY, Filipino men behind me. Weird.

They were totally my entertainment.

I didn't think it was SO bad. It did feel a bit rushed and I had higher hopes for the meadow scene, especially since Meyers dreamed it and all. Aren't dreams just movies? REALLY?
